Lay summary

Our research aims to explore specific DNA structures called G4-forming sequences, which are implicated in both inherited and newly arising genetic diseases. These sequences can adopt unique configurations that may influence how genes function, potentially leading to disease development. By mapping these sequences across the genome and analyzing associated genetic variations, we seek to understand their impact on health and disease. Our study will utilize advanced computational methods and experimental data to pinpoint these sequences and analyze their role in different diseases. This research is part of a broader effort led by Siddhardth Banka and Adam Jackson to advance genomic medicine, aiming to uncover new insights into disease mechanisms and identify potential targets for personalized treatments. Ultimately, our work aims to benefit patients by enhancing our understanding of genetic factors contributing to disease susceptibility and progression, paving the way for more effective personalized healthcare strategies and new therapeutic targets in treatment.
