There are no effective treatments for patients with motor neurone disease (MND). However recent advances in scientific understanding of the mechanics of MND provide new opportunities. Our team aims to use the Genomics England data to better understand the underlying causes of this disease, identify potential targets, assess existing targets and find potential new drugs that could contribute to finding new treatments. We aim to use bioinformatics analysis as well as our knowledge from collecting and analysising MND data from 3rd party data resources. This project is an initial exploratory work to better understand Genomics England data. Our initial goal is to understand genetic variation in GEL MND datasets, compare with associated diseases and understand the differences with insights already reported in MND. We aim to use the learnings from this project to drive activities supported by our syndicates, which involve patients, charities, academics and industry to progress innovative ideas to facilitate faster and more efficient medicines discovery.
