Mapping clinical datasets to the OMOP Common Data Model

The National Genomic Research Library (NGRL) holds longitudinal, de-identified clinical data on over 100,000 patients from a variety of sources, including Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) tables from NHS England and disease registration data from the National Disease Registration Service (NDRS). The information is currently provided in separate, set data models without standardised concepts or enumerations making it hard to run consistent queries on multiple datasets. This project outlines the processes to standardise the clinical data, available in the NGRL, to the open source Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership (OMOP) Common Data Model (CDM). Not only will this allow researchers to analyse the breadth of data Genomics England holds with greater ease, but will also allow researchers to cross query datasets from other institutions that also standardize their datasets using the OMOP CDM.
